A 30 mile an hour speed limit will go into effect on Morgan County Road Q east of Highway 71 as a first response to those worried about the impact of construction at the Windy Hill gas storage project.Neighbors of the project complained about speeding and the mess created on the road at a Board of Morgan County Commissioners meeting three weeks ago, and the board approved the speed limit at Tuesday's meeting.Board Chairman Tony Carlson said a request for the change along a 1 1/2-mile stretch of County Road Q was made by the Colorado Department of Public Safety after a study of the traffic was done. He noted the road has nine private accesses and is a gravel road. No mention was made of the sludge which some neighbors said gets spilled on the road as it is hauled to a pasture near Beaver Creek, but at the earlier meeting Carlson said it was a difficult situation finding who was responsible for regulation of the natural gas storage and wells in the area southeast of Brush. At that time, the board did say to neighbors of Windy Hill it would look into complaints about the company. The Morgan County Sheriff's Department has authority to enforce the speed limit, according to the resolution. At the Tuesday meeting, County Commissioner Andy Anderson said the cost of improvements on County Road Q were borne by the company. The board also approved a resolution proclaiming April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Morgan County. The resolution says sexual assault affects every person through family members, co-workers and neighbors.
Spring nor'easter brings heavy rain and powerful gusts to East
UNDATED (AP) - The governors of West Virginia and New Jersey have declared states of emergency because of a powerful nor'easter packing high winds and heavy rains. The declaration gives the states extra powers to handle storm-related problems. The governors urged residents to stay home from work and off the roads, if possible. The storm is giving runners in today's Boston Marathon something to worry about as the forecast is calling for up to five inches of rain. Cars are struck on various roadways. People fled their homes for shelters. And New York's governor deployed more than three-thousand members of the National Guard to areas that might be affected by the storm. New York City saw record rainfall yesterday with five and a-half inches.
Mobile Home Residents Buy Park
EXETER, N.H. -- The residents of an Exeter mobile home park have purchased the land under their homes in the largest deal of its kind in New Hampshire. The Exeter River Manufactured Housing Cooperative bought the Lindenshire Mobile Home Park last week for $15.6 million. The 89-acre park is home to 392 households. Chris Clasby of the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund said the sale gives residents security because they won't have to worry about the park being sold and will have control over their rents. The loan fund provided the group with a $3 million second mortgage. .
