Condos planned for improving Acre neighborhood
HAVERHILL - The inner-city Acre neighborhood has a reputation for crime and blight, but it is gradually improving as housing developments are built there, the newest planned for Auburn Street.
Local developer Ronald Roderick plans to build a five-unit condo complex in the heart of the Acre neighborhood at 69 Auburn St.
Haverhill is fast becoming a city packed with condos, with hundreds of units planned for the city's center and downtown. Developers are keying on old factory buildings downtown, which is growing in popularity with prospective tenants.
But investing in the Acre a half-mile away, despite its problems, can be profitable, said Roderick's lawyer, James Waldron. It also signals the seed of condo development spreading from the center of Haverhill.
